President Trump Signs “Common Sense” Education Reform Orders

School discipline, artificial intelligence technology, and workforce transition were addressed.

President Donald Trump signed new executive orders this past week to reform the U.S. education system. One order seeks to implement greater school discipline, as behavioral issues among students have spiked in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Another orders that classrooms integrate artificial intelligence technology further into school curriculum. Others address gift disclosures, workforce transition, partnerships with historically Black colleges and universities.

Another of the president’s orders would heighten federal accreditation requirements for colleges and universities. College accreditation ensures a university can participate in financial aid, and President Trump’s administration has questioned how college accreditors bestow their approval.

“Accreditors routinely approve institutions that are low-quality by the most important measures,” President Trump’s order stated. “American students and taxpayers deserve better, and my Administration will reform our dysfunctional accreditation system so that colleges and universities focus on delivering high-quality academic programs at a reasonable price.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For the president and his administration officials as they seek to improve public and higher education.
  • For Secretary Linda McMahon to be led by the Lord as she heads the Education Department.
